Coal Gasification
· KBR Transport Gasification/Combustion System – As Vice President - Technology, KBR executive sponsor for:
- US DOE 300+ MW demonstration IGCC plant to be located near Orlando, FL - support to Southern Company’s successful proposal. (Project awarded in 2004 and canceled in 2007)
- Southern Company Services operation of large scale pilot plant based on KBR transport reactor gasification system at US DOE coal gasification development facility at Wilsonville, AL - KBR support for 10 year+ operation.
- Southern Company Services/US DOE - Design and procurement of gasification system for coal gasification pilot plant at Wilsonville, AL
- US DOE – Development and operation of KBR small scale transport reactor based gasification/combustion system at KBR Technology Center, Houston, TX.
- US DOE – Development and operation of KBR small scale transport reactor based hot gas desulfurization system at KBR Technology Center, Houston, TX.
· Proposal to acquire one of the world’s leading commercial coal gasification technologies. Led this unsuccessful effort.
· KRW Bubbling Bed Coal Gasification Technology (formerly Westinghouse gasification)
- Sierra Pacific/Foster Wheeler/US DOE – Design, procurement and operation support for gasification area of 100 MW IGCC demonstration plant located at Pinon Pines, NV.
- KRW Energy Systems, Inc. – company formed by Kellogg Rust Synfuels to complete the development and commercialization of Westinghouse gasification technology – responsible for KRW division management including P&L and direction of technical and commercial activities.
- Purchase of Westinghouse bubbling bed gasification technology and large scale pilot plant located at Waltz Mill, PA for Kellogg Rust Synfuels, Inc.
· Wheelabrator-Frye – Fuel gas over the fence plants based on Lurgi fixed bed gasification process - many design and cost estimate studies for Wheelabrator-Frye who wanted to own and operated such facilities.
· RTI International Inc. – Coal gasification technology assistance.
· Confidential fertilizer company – Review of coal to ammonia study.
· Numerous coal and biomass gasification studies and preliminary designs based on commercial and developmental gasification technologies e.g. Texaco (now GE), Shell, Lurgi, KBR, Koppers-Totzek, H-T Winkler, etc. for applications such as fuel gas, IGCC, methanol, ammonia, etc. for both domestic and international clients.
Coal and Biomass Liquefaction
· International Coal Refining Company/US DOE – 2,000 TPD coal liquefaction plant to be located in Kentucky – extensive process, detailed design and cost estimate.
· Southern Company Services and Wheelabrator-Frye – 2,000 TPD coal liquefaction plant to be located in northern Alabama - extensive process, detailed design and cost estimate.
· Kerr-McGee Corporation – Supercritical solvent deashing pilot plant for DOE coal liquefaction pilot plant located at Wilsonville, AL – process and detailed design.
· Dow Chemical Company – coal liquefaction plant – preliminary design and estimate for commercial scale plant based on Dow’s proprietary process.
· US Bureau of Mines – Wood to oil pilot plant, Albany, OR – process and detailed design and operation.
· Cash Minerals ltd. – Coal to Fischer-Tropsch liquids conceptual study for Canadian location.
· North American Coal Corporation – Various consulting services for proposed coal to Fischer-Tropsch liquids project.
· Cash Minerals ltd. – Coal to Fischer-Tropsch liquids conceptual study for Chinese location.
· RTI International Inc. – Several coal to Fischer-Tropsch liquids studies.
· Citi Corporation – Sustainable Development Investments – biomass to ethanol project due diligence
